Ontario Provincial Police say they seized cannabis worth more than $61 million last month at a “commercial-sized” greenhouse operation on County Road 34.
The seizure was so large it took officers from the OPP Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team four days to pull and remove 45,000 plants as well as eight tonnes of processed, ready-to-sell cannabis.
“It’s a commercial-sized greenhouse so it took an excessive amount of time to process the scene,” said Det. Const. Sarah Bamford, who took part in the seizure.
The announcement of the June 28 raid was made Thursday.
The search warrant authorizing the raid is sealed, preventing the OPP from releasing the greenhouse address. Anne Goodwin of the OPP’s anti-rackets branch said the greenhouse is on County 34.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid.
More than $300,000 worth of equipment was also seized by the OPP.Bamford said that under the Proceeds of Crime Act property and buildings can be seized.
Search warrants were also issued for two residences.
